Southern Ain't Fried Sundays
"Southern Ain't Fried Sundays" (SAFS) is a project uniquely designed to educate churches and other organizations about healthier alternatives when preparing southern-style foods and to educate participants about the signs and symptoms of stroke, diabetes and heart attack. This program is also being done in conjunction with the American Cancer Society's "Active for Life" and "Body & Soul" programs which encourage physical activity and good nutrition.
The Arkansas Minority Health Commission is pleased to announce the 4th annual “Southern Ain’t Fried Sundays” event. We’ve had very successful years thanks to you and your commitment.
This is a program that teaches the community how to prepare classic soul food dishes in a more health conscious fashion. This initiative is being launched throughout the state of Arkansas with focus placed on the 10 counties that statistically have the highest percentage of health challenges.
The campaign will culminate with the creation of the “Southern Ain’t Fried Sunday’s” Cookbook. This cookbook will feature soul food recipes using healthy ingredients, which in turn promotes a healthier lifestyle.
We are very excited about the possibility of you and your church family or organization joining us in our efforts to reduce the incidence of high blood pressure, diabetes, heart attacks and other chronic diseases by participating in the 4rd annual “Southern Ain’t Fried Sundays,” program.
